Mastitis
Mastitis is common in breastfeeding mothers, and is usually the result of a blocked duct that hasn’t cleared and has caused an inflammatory response.

Early indicators of Mastitis are;
* flu-like symptoms
* sore, red, and swollen breast
* baby fussing while feeding
* increased skin temperature of the breast
* fatigue
It is most beneficial to seek treatment and/or education in the first 24 hours of symptoms. But treatment at any stage can help reduce pain and risk of recurrence.
What To Expect?
At your appointment, your practitioner will begin with a thorough assessment to understand your symptoms, feeding history, and any contributing factors such as positioning, latch, or previous episodes. This ensures your treatment is safe, effective, and tailored to your individual presentation.
Treatment typically includes a combination of gentle manual lymphatic drainage, soft tissue massage, and therapeutic ultrasound to help reduce inflammation, clear blockages, improve circulation, and promote breast comfort. These techniques are performed with care to minimise pain and support your body’s natural healing process.
You’ll also receive education and practical advice on breast care, feeding techniques, and self-management strategies to help prevent recurrence. If your practitioner identifies any signs of infection that may require medical treatment, they will liaise with your GP or other healthcare providers as needed.
Most people experience noticeable relief within one to two sessions, though this varies depending on severity and how early treatment is sought. Your practitioner will guide you through an appropriate follow-up plan to ensure ongoing comfort and recovery.
